Follow these egg-cellent tips to make sure you are recycling right this Easter!
Every year more than 80 million chocolate eggs are sold in the UK, generating more than 8,000 tonnes of waste from Easter egg packaging.
Here in South Holland I’d like to encourage you all to reduce, reuse and recycle this Easter season to ensure an egg-cessive amount is not thrown into black bags!
To reduce your waste you can avoid buying Easter eggs that are over-packaged, using a lot of different materials.
You could also go paperless and sending Easter e-cards to friends and family. This would reduce the amount waste created by Easter cards.
To reuse this Easter you could compost cardboard packaging you receive on Easter eggs.
You could also reuse packaging to get creative. Cardboard boxes can be upcycled and reused to create compostable flower pots or the kids could get creative and reuse packaging for arts projects, homemade cards or even gift bags!
If you cannot reduce or reuse your Easter waste remember to recycle it. A lot of plastic packaging can now be recycled, so please make sure you check the packaging.
Remember to recycle the foil from the Easter eggs as long as it is clean and ensure all cardboard and cards are put in your green bag!
