Local lottery wins for good causes

The community lottery has raised more than £34,000 over the course of a year and supported 83 local good causes.

The South and East Lincolnshire Community Lottery launched in November 2022 and since then £34,756.80 has been distributed.
The first draw was on November 26, 2022 and 818 tickets were sold with 69 good causes registered.
Some 60 per cent of the £1 ticket cost will go to good causes, with 20 per cent prize money and 20 per cent to the external management company for running costs.
South Holland has the highest number of good causes registered, with 33 of the 83 total from across Boston, East Lindsey and national.
The first year hasn’t been without problems, as a data breach was reported in November 2023.
Players who had signed-up for a direct debit before November 8 were affected when London & Zurich, appointed to look after direct debits, was subject to a cyber attack.
Names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers could have been compromised, but players were told that the data had been recovered and there was no evidence it had been ‘misused in any way.’
A report to members of South Holland District Council’s cabinet said some of the lottery income was used to support ‘civic pride’ events across the partnership.
“Such events would be designed to celebrate and promote voluntary and community sector activity,” the report says.
“Although the figures for the first year of the Community Lottery have been positive and funds raised for good causes are excellent, there is scope to improve this,” said the report.
It says further targeted promotion might help to increase players.
Income for each authority in the partnership was £2,450 after one year.
