Groundhog glory as South Lincs trio toast medals

South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club picked up a clutch of impressive medals as they sent 17 members to the long course Groundhog Level One Open Meet at the University of East Anglia.

Talented ten-year-old Elisha Cookson achieved a brilliant bronze in the 50m butterfly event – which represented an impressive showing.

In the 14 years category, Will Swain toasted double delight as he bagged the silver medal in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m butterfly.

That haul was matched by 15-year-old Luke Elliott, who snapped up a super silver in the 400m freestyle and landed a bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Also competing at the high level meet were: 9 years – Hannah Willis, Mollie Briggs, Millie Pinguenet and Anya Strickland; 10 years – Dusty Saines; 11 years – Amelia Fovargue and Atticus Strickland; 13 years – Emily McCann; 15 years – Alice Gowing, Rebecca Mckenzie, Matthew Gray and Alan Sumpton; 16 years – Gemma Baker; 17 years – Tom Mitchell.

South Lincs head coach Callum Lawson, who was celebrating his 29th birthday at the event, said: “There were some great skills and fast swims from the team.

“Well done to all of those who competed.

“Thanks must go to the support and team staff too.”
