Dring’s half-century proves to be in vain

A solid 47-ball 56 from opener Chris Dring and decent mid-innings knocks from William Gardner (32) and Josh Lawrence (21) were not enough to earn Spalding victory in the Lincolnshire Board Premier League.
Spalding closed their innings in the 38th over on 158.
Harry Birch (2-41) had sent both Bourne openers packing with 45 on the board but Jonathan Cheer (23) and Peter Morgan (88) put on 86 for what proved to be a decisive third-wicket stand.
Jay White chipped in with 2-24 and there was a wicket for Neo Timothy but the hosts reached a winning total of 159/5 inside 30 overs.
Long Sutton need just seven points from their last two matches to clinch the South Lincs & Border League Championship title after a 114-run win at Bourne Seconds.
Sutton scored well throughout their innings, despite no-one being able to push on for a big score. Daniel Oldfield struck a six and seven 4s in his 51, with Barry Stanway (37), Nathan Oliver (31) and Jacob Gray (22) adding a boost before a late collapse saw them lose their last four wickets for just one run.
Paul Edgeller (5-42) and Josh Baker (3-7) put the pressure on Bourne in their response and they succumbed for 91 with only three batsmen reaching double figures and none passing 18.
Moulton Harrox kept alive their outside title hopes with a four-wicket win against Woodhall Spa.
The visitors used all their 45 overs to reach 203/7 but Moulton passed that for the loss of six wickets with a ball to spare of the 38th over.
Moulton’s second XI conceded their scheduled Division One match at title-chasing Billingborough.
Spalding Seconds missed the chance to overhaul their neighbours when they picked up just a single point in an eight-wicket defeat at bottom-placed Grantham Thirds, leaving them a point behind Moulton but with two games in hand.
Thomas Preston top-scored for Spalding with 24 but the only other players to reach double figures were Dan Mulley (14) and Sophie Smith in a total of 76 all out.
Grantham built their reply around opener Rysz Page, who hit an unbeaten 48 as they reached 77/2 inside 19 overs.
Robert Seymour (2-19) took both their wickets.
Rutland League Division Two champions Long Sutton slipped to an eight-wicket defeat at relegation-threatened Uffington.
Josh Baker hit a middle order 53 but Sutton were all out for 144 and their hosts needed less than 18 overs to reach their winning target.
