Drury warns Holbeach United that Kempston are Fuller threats

Graham Drury has warned his title-chasing Holbeach United charges that in-form Kempston Rovers could derail their season on Saturday.

High-flying Holbeach have won seven games on the spin in all competitions after Wednesday’s 1-0 home victory over UCL Premier Division title rivals Yaxley.

Normally, that’d make them big favourites against 11th-placed Kempston. But they’re on an equally impressive run themselves, having won four on the trot.

Ex-Tiger Ashley Fuller has spearheaded Rovers’ run – and joint Holbeach boss Drury is under no illusions as to the size of the game at Carter’s Park (3pm).

“Obviously they are a very decent side,” said the ex-Boston United and Stamford boss. “Their recent form speaks for itself really.

“They’ve got Ash Fuller and other top players, so we know we’re in for a big test. We’ve had them watched and it’s fair to say they have the potential to be a top six side.”

Drury, who returned from his touchline ban against Yaxley, admits that his side can’t afford to drop points on Saturday, with a host of sides bidding to deny them their ultimate dream of winning the title and sealing promotion.

But he reckons the race for glory in the UCL is wide open this year.

Drury added: “We weren’t at our best against Rothwell on Saturday, but I want to see us get back to the form we showed before then.

“January is a big month for us and it’ll likely shape our season. If we can take seven points from Yaxley, Kempston and AFC Rushden and Diamonds later in the month, we’ll be in a very strong position.

“Anything less, and we’ll be playing catch up.

“We’ve got to keep the pressure on Diamonds, but I wouldn’t rule Yaxley and Wisbech Town out of the running. It’s a really exciting league.”

The Tigers have a clean bill of health for the visit of Kempston, which is the Tigers’ final league game before their big FA Vase trip to Thurnby Nirvana on Saturday week.
