UKIP’s parliamentary candidate for South Holland and The Deepings is urging Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to quickly investigate the A&E situation in Lincolnshire hospitals.
Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital is on black alert due to an extremely high number of patients and beds being at a premium.
David Parsons says he has heard of patients presenting at A&E departments at Pilgrim Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital being turned away and sent to Grimsby due to lack of capacity.
In a letter to Mr Hunt, he said: “You are no doubt on the case but I would ask you to urgently investigate the situation in Lincolnshire with a view to alleviating what looks like a pretty dire situation in A&E at the moment.”
Mr Parsons has also asked the Department of Health to keep local people informed as to the situation with hospitals in Lincolnshire.
He said: “It looks as though even with the small amount of extra money which has allegedly been given to local health authorities by the Government for winter pressures in the NHS, funding is still inadequate and the Secretary of State needs to act quickly to address the situation in Lincolnshire.”
