LETTERS – BMX track needs CCTV cameras

I refer to the article, BMX track to go (August 3), where a spokesman for Spalding Cycling club states “it is well used”. Yes, this is very true. However, not for the purpose intended – drug and alcohol-fuelled ASB nearly every day and night by up to 20 youths, covering the whole BMX track area and behind the mound.
This area of the park has been well documented over the last two years with a Community Trigger – 52 reported police incidents in 17 months, two calls to 999, two attempted break-ins, one theft plus one fire brigade call out, all to the detriment of residents who have unfortunately had to live with this for many years. Also, the public who try to use the park.
So those wishing to re-instate the BMX track for its true usage, let’s hope it’s in a more appropriate area with CCTV installed being able to show all activities making it less disruptive for all concerned.
This BMX track was never best placed and should’ve been monitored, therefore not falling into such disrepair.
