Division Two leaders Bourne stunned by Consti show

Consti B produced one of the most impressive Spalding and District Snooker League performances of the season so far as they handed Division Two leaders Bourne SC A a 6-0 beating.

Wins from Steve Spencer (R21), John Keeton (O7), John Christian (R7), Martin Fear (O7) and Mick Johnson (O35) left the long-time table-toppers stunned – and beaten for only the fourth time this season.

Mark Gray (O93) did manage a 46 break for the Bourne boys, but they will be hoping this loss doesn’t derail their promotion bid.

Second-placed Crowland B failed to take full advantage of the slip-up as they went down 4-2 at Boundary.

Jim McGhee (scr) won the penultimate frame to seal the win for the Deepings side, while Stewart Lilley (R7) top scored with a 24 break.

Elsewhere, two other sides hoping for promotion to the big time – Consti G and Holbeach B – played out a good contest. Consti G emerged victorious 4-2, although Holbeach’s Neil Harvey (O14) starred with a 34 break.

Up in the top flight, leaders Tulips B notched up a hard-fought 4-2 success over Pyramid B. In a game that saw Spencer Dawkins (O48) make a 37 break, Jason Green (O56) trouser a 33 break and Mark Woodberry (O35) reel off a 25 clearance, Mark Wilkinson (O14) sealed the win in the final frame.

Second-placed Services A did their title hopes no harm with a 4-2 victory at Crowland C, with Jon Bettinson (scr) making a 20 break en route to securing the all-important final frame success.
Team-mate Pete Mullane (O21) added a 33 break for the Spalding side.

Perhaps the game of the night saw Donington C go head-to-head with Long Sutton A. Donington edged the battle 4-2, but it was breaks of 49 and 48 respectively from Sean Swinburn (O49) and Neil Reynolds (O49) that lit up the contest.

Meanwhile, Tulips A picked up a welcome 4-2 win at Pyramid A thanks to a final frame triumph from Martin Anderson (O7).

Down in Division Three, high-flying Services D kept their promotion bid on track with a 4-2 victory at rivals Consti C.

A 23 clearance from Mike Small in frame two helped them on their way, before Tanya Peel (R14) clinched victory at the death.

Whittlesey C also kept themselves in the mix at the top with a 4-2 away return from their trip to Consti D.

Graeme Sawyer (O14), Mick Blythe (R14) and Steve Jennings (O21) were the Whittlesey winners.

Towards the foot, Long Sutton C returned to form with a 5-1 win at Donington D. Gavin Shinkin (R7), Dan Mayfield (O28), Rachel Mayfield (R21) and Susan Lefley (R14) got their frame wins.
