In-form Holbeach United Reserves closed to within four points of a promotion place in ChromaSport Peterborough League Division One by seeing off South Holland rivals Long Sutton Athletic 2-0.
Tom Brooks and Macauley Grimwood delivered the goals for Omar Joof’s men at Carter’s Park on Saturday – meaning they require four points from their final two games to pinch second place from Langtoft United.
Standing in their way are lowly Kings Cliffe, who welcome the Tigers on Saturday (2pm) and champions Thorney, who host a final day of the season cracker on May 10.
Joof’s men will be sweating on the availability of Dave Wilson, though. He was sent off for receiving two yellow cards on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox lost an eight-goal Premier Division thriller against Netherton United at Broad Lane.
Danny Cairns, Ian Bradbury and Ash Coddington all scored for Harrox, but Netherton fired five of their own to claim a 5-3 success and keep their title hopes alive.
Also in the top flight, Pinchbeck United earned a potentially vital point in their bid to beat the drop. Adam Braybrook got their goal in a 1-1 draw at Stilton United.
Pinchbeck sit 15th in the standings, just two points ahead of the bottom two with three games in hand on second-from-bottom Ramsey Town.
Back in Division One, Sutton Bridge United earned a 2-1 triumph at rock-bottom Farcet United on the final day of their season thanks to goals from Matt Eaton and Joseph Sutton.
In Division Two, a double from David Howe steered Crowland Town Reserves to a 4-1 derby victory over Gedney Hill at Snowden Field. Luke Elsom and Michael Smith also notched for the hosts, with Chris Brown replying for Gedney Hill.
Meanwhile, Pinchbeck United Reserves were soundly beaten 7-3 at home against Oundle Town. Jamie Cartlidge (2) and Jordon Mahon got the consolation goals.
Down in Division Four, Joe Johnson’s sole strike wasn’t enough to stop Tydd St Mary going down 6-1 at home to Hampton Sport.
