Moulton’s cup double delight

A dramatic finish to Moulton Harrox’s season saw them make it a cup double.

In his final game as manager, Kev Nottingham’s side beat Warboys Town on penalties to lift the Dor-Jan Peterborough and District League Cup at Yaxley Town last week.
It follows them winning the FA Junior Cup in March and a second place finish in the Premier League.
Moulton went behind early last Thursday as after a bright opening Warboys’ Jake Newton controlled a long ball forward and finished well for 1-0.
Harrox hit back to level before the break through Louis Steadman.
Warboys created several chances and regained the lead after being given a penalty, Dan Moulds slotting home.
But with time running out Ian Bradbury hit a brilliant half volley from the edge of the area to make it 2-2 with a late leveller that took the game to penalties.
Warboys put two of their first three penalties over the bar while Moulton scored all of theirs before the last penalty was put wide of the post to give Harrox the cup.
Liam Thirkell was named the man of the match.
A spokesman for the club, said: “What a way to end the season.
“A last minute equaliser epitomises the spirit in this group and then we stick the penalties away!”
Nottingham is now stepping away from the role with Simon Black coming in.
“This was always planned at the end of the season and what a way to go out as we have had superb success,” the club’s Twitter account continued. “They’re massive shoes to fill and the committee have worked very hard on this.
“We are therefore pleased to announce that Simon Black will be taking the reigns next season!
“Simon will be assisted by both Paul Crowson and Ian Abbott in the dugout.
“We wish everyone the best of luck going into next season!.
“Further plans for pre-season are to be announced soon.”
Gary Chappell and Steadman were named the players’ player of the year at the club’s end of season awards ceremony while Declan Earth, who was the league’s top scorer with 35 goals in as many games, was the manager’s player of the season.
Moulton has also announced it will have a reserves team next season to be overseen by Marcus Holcombe.
It’s not yet been decided what division they will be placed in next season.
