There’s plenty going on at the Spalding Gentlemen’s Society in the next few weeks.
First up, and especially for the Spalding Flower Parade on Saturday, the Broad Street museum will be hosting a display of archived material from previous events. The museum itself is though closed on the day.
On Friday, June 2 from 10am to 4pm there will be a Children’s Egyptian workshop. There will be plenty of activities with a donation of £2 requested.
Saturday, June 10 is the launch of the Engagement in the Artefact initiative where some of the museum’s incredible collection will be brought out and the stories behind them revealed.
The Spalding Gentlemen’s Society’s Quiz Night takes place on Wednesday, June 14.
It starts at 7pm with entry £5. Booking is essential via [email protected]
A Fascinating Fens exhibition is on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17.
It focuses on drainage in the Fens with displays at the museum from the Spalding Grammar School library, archives and collection.
A bit later on, as part of a Heritage Open Day, there will be a display entitled ‘The Adventures of William Stukeley’.
Open from September 12 and 16, it will include prints and displays by the antiquarian.
There’s also set to be an exhibition of books from the original SGS library.
A spokesman said: “When the Society was founded in 1710 by Maurice Johnson, the membership fee was either £1 or the donation of a book leading to a fascinating collection.”
The SGS museum is open to visitors between 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday each week (apart from this Saturday).
