LETTERS – Parish council’s lack of help

I write to share dissatisfaction that with two months still to go to Fleet Parish Council’s summer fete huge and expensive posters were erected around Fleet, belittling an event volunteers are planning to give families a low cost fun day out to celebrate the Coronation.
The parish council chairman took his position as Independent candidate to a new level as he published photos of himself putting up the posters.
At a recent meeting a decision was made by the parish council not to put up any banners or do anything for the Coronation, stating they were too expensive, even though they chose to spend a lot more on summer fete posters.
Fleet Community Responders were given a donation by Harold Payne to buy banners for their event on May 8. The event was requested due to nothing having been planned by the parish council and was not supported when the group invited them to contribute towards the costs.
Not only did they not support the event, they went on to charge the group for using the parish’s pavilion! The group has also had to purchase the necessary insurance to use the playing field.
