A community fundraiser has been launched after a fatal house fire in Spalding.
A 56-year-old member of the Lithuanian community died in the blaze at Spring Gardens in the early hours of Tuesday, April 11.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue say carelessly discarded smoking materials was the cause.
The Lithuanian community is rallying around the family who lived at the building with whom the man who died was staying.
Laima Kontrauskaite, who is involved with the community group Leipa, said the couple have been left with nothing following the blaze and have also been devastated by the death of the person staying with them.
He has not been named and Laima also declined to name the couple who have been left homeless and whom she has launched the fundraiser for.
“The couple who were living in the home are a huge part of the Lithuanian community,” Laima said. “They’ve helped so many people in the local area.
“And the lady in particular has been one of the most active members of Leipa set up to help the Lithuanian community. It’s only fair that we as a community help them.
“It’s such a troubling time for them as they’ve lost everything including their friend.
“They’ll pretty much have to start at the beginning again.
“We set up the Go Fund Me page and we’ve had some fantastic donations, but we’d like to do more for this family who are currently homeless and living with another family as they try to get their lives back.”
