A brilliant total of £27,000 has been raised by the Spalding branch of the Royal British Legion for the 2022 Poppy Appeal.
And members wanted to say thank you to the people of South Holland for the amount, which betters last year’s total.
The main organiser for the branch, Elizabeth Carvlin, said: “This year’s total is higher than 2021.
“I just don’t know how to thank you all, to me it shows that even now, at these difficult times, our veterans and the Royal British Legion is still high on the agenda at this time of year.
“Thank you especially to the volunteers who stood about in the cold all over the town and outside shops and on market stalls.
“Thanks to the schools who did so much, as well as shops, pubs and businesses.
“The whole of the Royal British Legion played a part in some way and worked so hard to achieve such a fantastic amount of money.
The branch’s Jan Whitbourn said: “It is astounding to see how much has been raised by the people in Spalding.
“With the cost of living and the pressures on us all rising from everyday living, it is amazing how generous everyone has been.
“All our Poppy Appeal collectors have been touched by the generosity of the people here in Spalding.
“We can’t thank you enough.”
The Spalding branch is looking for more volunteers to keep the fundraising going for next year.
“We would like people to come forward who could spare some time to help with deliveries, stalls or any help they can provide to help raise an even better amount next year,” continued Jan. “This money goes towards helping and supporting our veterans and serving men of the Royal British Legion.”
