Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies took all 16 points on offer as they won their latest Trudy Bates match at home to Stamford 124-68.
The hosts started well and led 63-34 at the half-way stage. They never looked like surrendering their advantage and finished with a whopping winning margin of 56 shots.
The best winning rink was Freda Lyon, Maxine Coleman, Maisie Belding and Gill Needham, who won 32-8.
- Spalding recorded a 96-59 win over Melton Mowbray in round one of the Denny Cup national club knockout competition on Saturday.
With two rinks at home and two away, Spalding started well and were over 20 shots to the good after five ends.
Despite a fight back from Melton, Spalding remained in control throughout.
Rink scores: Away – Simon Lilley won 33-12; Matt Whyers won 20-16. Home – Graham Smith won 26-17; Paul Simpson won 17-14.
Next up is Boston on November 15.
- Spalding beat local rivals Boston in the national mixed knockout Top Club competition, winning by ten points to six in a match played at Boston on Sunday.
Having lost by one in the final last year, Spalding began this campaign in good form, recording victories in the men’s singles (24-9), mixed triples (19-10) and mixed fours (23-14).
Boston’s success came in the ladies’ singles and mixed pairs, but Spalding progress to play Hornsea in the next round.
- The Spalding IBC friendly bowlers travelled to Long Sutton on Sunday for what turned out to be a closely contested game.
The home team took an early lead, which they held on to up to around the tenth end when Spalding closed the gap to within a couple of shots.
From that point on the game was swings and roundabouts, with never more than a couple of shots difference – and indeed both teams were drawing on numerous occasions.
However, Spalding persevered and finally closed the game at 101-83.
The game was enjoyed by all, with everyone looking forward to the return match at the end of January.
The winning rink honours for Spalding went to the team of Chris Broughton, Brian Stuckey and skip Jenny Horner, with Roger Perkins being the captain on the day.
