Changes to Brylaine Into Town bus route due to road closure

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAA two-week road closure in Spalding is causing disruption to the regular Into Town bus service.

Welland and Deeping Internal Drainage Board is carrying out work to install a structural lining to the main surface water sewer that runs under Wygate Park.
Work is taking place between Sorrel Drive and Avignon Road and started on Friday. It is scheduled to finish on Monday, November 10, and the road will be closed throughout this period.

This means the regular Into Town bus service, run by Brylaine, which services the estate every 45 minutes, is unable to take its regular route.

A resident contacted The Voice saying she didn’t know where to catch the bus from while the road is closed.
She said: “People down here rely on the bus to get into town and we need to know where we can catch it from.
“I’ve contacted Lincolnshire County Council and Brylaine but haven’t been able to get a straight answer.”

Malcolm Wheatley, operations director for Brylaine, said the company knew the work was scheduled but they hadn’t had full details.
He said: “We didn’t realise the work was happening until we were contacted by a resident and at that point I had to find out what was going on.
“Because of the road closures the bus is unable to take its usual route.
“The bus will come from Woolram Wygate and instead of turning left onto Wygate Park, the drivers will have to go right.

“We have not had a chance to set up any temporary bus stops but people will still be able to catch the bus by flagging down the driver along Wygate Park.
“We understand it’s difficult for people who rely on the bus but while this work is happening we have no choice but to make these changes.”
