New electric vehicle charging points in Crowland, Holbeach and Sutton Bridge have been switched on.
Working in partnership with Crowland Parish Council, Sutton Bridge Parish Council and Holbeach Community Association, electric vehicle charging points are now installed at:
- Snowden Fields Pavilion, Thorney Rd, Crowland
- The Curlew Centre, Bridge Rd, Sutton Bridge
- Holbeach Community Centre, Fishpond Lane, Holbeach.
These add to South Holland District Council’s three Spalding car parks that already have electric vehicle spaces, at Vine Street, Victoria Street and in the visitors’ car park at the council’s Priory Road offices.
Funding for the new points came primarily from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles through the On-Street Residential Charge Points Grant Scheme, delivered through the Energy Saving Trust.
A council spokesman said: “The scheme is designed to bring publicly accessible charge points to local communities where there is limited access for residents to private off-street parking facilities, making the use of a personal charge point impossible.
“It provides 7kW Fast Chargers that allow for full overnight charging without needing to pay parking costs.
“Each charge point is a double socket unit serving two parking spaces and will also be available during the day, subject to normal car parking charges.”
Coun Anthony Casson, portfolio holder for public protection, said: “With electric and hybrid vehicles in ever-increasing demand, we are delighted to be able to introduce these new charging points across the district, and to help make it an easier, more accessible and more appealing option for those considering purchasing one.”
“We are committed to being an environmentally responsible council and having a positive impact in South Holland, and we hope that making these further points available to more residents will help us to achieve that.”
The charge points are operated by MER on behalf of the council, with further information on the points and their tariffs available at www.sholland.gov.uk/evcharging. Additional information on how to use the points can be found at uk.mer.eco/how-it-works and at www.zap-map.com.
