Homeless man broke into mum’s old home to avoid rain

A homeless man has been ordered to pay compensation after breaking into the empty house his mother used to live in to escape the rain.

Karol Pieczsnski, 28, who gave a care of address in Witham Road in Spalding, admitted damaging a door
when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

Prosecuting, Mare Stace said Pieczsnski noticed his mother’s former home was still unoccupied when he
cycled past on May 31 and broke in through a rear patio door in order to sleep there.

Pieczsnski, who was not represented, told District Judge Peter Veits that he had had nowhere to stay and
had decided to go in but had handed himself into the police station later.

Judge Veits gave him a stand alone compensation order of £360 for the damage he had caused.
