A Spalding man has been thanked for 100 donations of blood with a special award.
Terry Day, 70, a retired Spalding Fire Officer and former Spalding Royal Naval Association branch secretary, was invited along with his wife Shirley to an award ceremony at Beverley Racecourse in Yorkshire.
He was presented with a Memorial Medallion and Certificate in Recognition of having made more than 100 whole blood donations.
Terry’s donation journey has taken over 50 years.
In 1971 he first donated when the blood donation team called at HMS Drake in Plymouth and Terry, at 19 years of age, gave his first whole blood donation.
On leaving the Royal Navy he continued donating, working his way to each milestone until in February this year, he made his 100th blood donation at Bourne Corn Exchange.
Terry said: “Apart from being an extremely worthwhile thing to do, donating blood gives you a feeling of well being.
“I’ve no intention of calling it a day on donating and will continue as long as my health will allow me to.”
Blood stocks are seriously low especially with two years of the Covid Virus and new blood donors are urgently needed more now than ever before.
