Duke of York to lose planning battle?

Plans to demolish a former village pub and develop the site for homes look likely to be approved.

The original application for the Duke of York in Gosberton Risegate was deemed to have insufficient financial information when the original application was submitted in June.

But a report to go before South Holland District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday says it is not viable to re-open the pub which has been closed for two years.

Accountancy company Bowers, Fleming and Co endorses the fact and says that there would be a significant loss to the business for a year ending last February due to costs.

The report also reveals that the village’s other pub, The Black Horse is also on the market.

The proposal would see a total of eight homes built on the site.

One letter from the public was received lamenting the loss of the pub, says the report. There was opposition from ward councillor Henry Bingham.

The parish council said the plan was an over development of the site. There were five comments supporting the scheme, the report says.
