A brass band which has been part of the Holbeach community for more than 40 years is calling for public support to help raise £100,000 to find a new home.
Holbeach Town Band has rented its Back Lane premises from the parish council for the last 35 years but has been given two years’ notice to find an alternative home.
Musical Director Mel Hopkin is asking the public to help – either financially or through letters of support – as the band searches for somewhere suitable to relocate.
In a letter to supporters Mr Hopkin said: “The band is very grateful to the council for its support over the years but now the council has decided to develop the site for its own requirements.
“The band is seeking help from the local community to find alternative premises – such as a building to use as a bandroom or a suitable site where a bandroom could be built.
“The band is applying for grant funding but is also looking for financial assistance from the local community to help fund this exciting project.”
Along with proof that the band has public support to buy a new bandroom, the funding applications have to include evidence of support for its work training people of all ages to play a brass instrument through its learner group, training band, senior band, individual tuition and theory classes.
Mr Hopkin added: “By supporting the band, you will be enhancing the development of young musicians in Holbeach, Spalding and the surrounding areas, and helping to ensure the future of what is a highly respected band and part of the heritage of Holbeach.”
