No hill too high for Steve

A Spalding man looking to revive the town’s Flower Parade took a break last weekend to raise money for charity thanks to the support his dad receives.

Steve Timewell, of West Pinchbeck, took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge climbing Ingleborough, Whernside, the highest peak in Yorkshire, and Pen y Ghent in 13 hours non-stop last weekend.

And in doing so he raised £1,400 for the Alzheimer’s Society which researches the condition his dad Peter suffers with.

“It is the toughest thing I have ever done in my life,” Steve said. “It was gruelling.

“At several points the constant walking and climbing brought me to tears, it was so painful, I didn’t think I could do it. It was only the thought of my father that drove me on”

It’s now back to organising Spalding Flower Parade 2023 for Steve, with a public meeting due to take place tonight (Thursday) at 7.30pm at the Constitutional Club on Broad Street.

Steve said: “I cannot thank the local community enough for their support.

“I have had literally thousands of offers of help and volunteers.

“The parade will most certainly go ahead next May and it seems the whole of Spalding is already gearing up for it.

“I’ve had messages from as far as Australia, from people wanting to come back and witness this incredible event.”

  • A new competition was also launched this week for local people under the age of 18 to design a float.

The winner will receive a £200 stationery voucher donated by Bounce and their float will be in the parade.
