Spalding RFC completed their regular Midlands Two East (North) season with a dominant 70-13 win over Bakewell at the Memorial Field on Saturday.

The bonus-point triumph leaves Town as runners-up, some four points behind champions Belgrave. Spalding can count themselves very unlucky not to have topped the table, having won 19 of their 22 league games.

Town – who were buoyed by the presence of England World Cup winner Richard Hill on the sideline – ran in 12 tries, with Wes Cope and Ed Duerden among the scorers.

They now face a winner-takes-all promotion play-off with Midlands Two East (South) runners-up Newbold on Avon, in a game that is to be played on April 26 at the Memorial Field.
