Holbeach United are now just two games away from going an entire season without claiming a win after being dispatched 7-0 by Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North leaders Long Eaton United on Saturday.
The Tigers, who are already relegated from the division, have now lost 29 of their 32 league games this season after the humbling at Grange Park.
Long Eaton’s goals came from Kameron Campbell (32), Kane Gilbert (OG 41), Alex Marshall (79, 81 and 83), Tom Marshall (62) and Jamie Walker (87) – and pushed Holbeach’s goal difference to a staggering -102 for the season so far.
Tigers boss Danny Clifton, who was struck down with COVID-19 before the game, admitted that his side caved in late on – but felt the scoreline was very harsh.
“It was a tough day with me testing positive for COVID,” admitted Clifton. “We’d booked a coach to go there, but I obviously had to travel alone and take the team as there was nobody else.
“I went into the dressing room before the lads and put some tactics on the board, then could only really talk to them outside.
“It’s a shame, as I thought we did really well in the first half. We were 2-0 down but could have had a few goals ourselves.
“If I could have spoken to them properly I think It would have helped.
“We lost the Dalliday brothers in the second half – and after that we caved in a little bit and the goals just kept on coming.
“I think that gave the scoreline a harsh look, it was very tough on the lads.
“But we certainly learned a lot from the game and I’m pleased with the first half.
“We’ve played all the top sides battling for the title in recent weeks and I think that I’d say Gresley Rovers are the best of them.
“It’s just my opinion, but they stand out from Long Eaton and Anstey by quite some distance.”
