Whaley looking for a reaction as Spalding United bid to end their losing streak at struggling Soham

Spalding United manager Brett Whaley wants to see his Spalding United side snap their losing streak on Saturday.

The Tulips have suffered defeats in their last three games and haven’t won in five Pitching In NPL Midlands Division fixtures following Saturday’s 2-0 home reverse against Coleshill Town.

They visit relegation-threatened Soham Town Rangers this Saturday (2pm) and Whaley has warned his side that they’ll lose again if their attitude isn’t right.

That’s because Soham are 19th in the 20-team division and are fighting for their lives to get out of the drop zone.

“Let’s be honest, we’ve struggled against sides at the bottom this season,” said Whaley. “Soham are fighting for every point at the moment.

“We’re on a bad run and sat in mid-table, so we’ve obviously not got that pressure that Soham will feel.

“But I want to see our bad run come to an end. We’ll not be experimenting or messing around with the side; we want to win.

“If we go there, take it seriously and apply ourselves correctly, I think that we’ll win the game.

“But I also think that, if we go there and play without conviction, we’ll lose.

“This is the kind of game that will tell me a lot about my players. I’ve learnt a lot lately in defeat and I’d like to see a reaction from them.”

Spalding have no new injury concerns for the away trip as they bid to win for the first time since seeing off Belper 2-1 on February 26.
