Snooker round-up: Pyramid A within a whisker of sealing Division One title after big home win

Spalding and District Snooker League Division One leaders Pyramid A are one point from the title after winning 5-1 at home to Services C.

Victor Rouse (O7) beat Nigel Cherry (014) 61-56 in the opening frame but Services hit back in the second as Geoff Hemsil (R21) edged Mick Twell (R14) 68-53.

Wins for Matthew Chapman (scr), Norman Vaughan (O14) and Dean Cole (O7) sealed it for the leaders.

Their nearest challengers are now Holbeach C who beat previously second placed Pyramid C. Shaun Lee’s (O28) win on the black over Spencer Dawkins (056) set them on the way to a 5-1 win.

Services A climbed above Sutton Bridge B into fourth in the table with a 4-2 win over them, helped by breaks of 42 from Craig Fitter (O63) and Chris Dunmore (028).

Stuart Atkin (O49) had a 35 break in his win on the black for Sutton.

Bourne A beat Donington C 4-2 despite going behind twice. After Donington’s Neil Reynolds (O49) beat Carl Gibson (O21) on the black, Bourne responded with Mark Gray (O105) beating Lee Hempsall (014) 122-99 via breaks of 32, 31 and a 25 clearance.

Shaun Pickering (R14) won for Donington and Ian Clare (O7) for Bourne to set up a deciding frame which Oliver Player (O28) won 71-48 over Neil Favell (O14).

In Division Two, Bourne C moved to the top above Sutton Bridge A who were without a game.

Bourne beat Gosberton A 4-2 with a win on the black for Paul Stewart (R14) and a 22 clearance from Pete Burrell the highlights for the home side.

Third placed Consti F were surprisingly beaten by bottom of the table Whittlesey C. Jason Bloomfield (scr), Simon Parker (Scr) and Gary Thewliss (R7) giving the basement side a 4-2 win.

Bourne SC B twice came from behind to beat Services B 4-2, Jason Rose with a 43 break for Services.

Wins for Pete Mullane (O21), Barry Haynes (O7), Charlie Mullane (R14) and Neil Harvey (O14) helped Holbeach B win 5-1 at Donington A while Consti H were 4-2 winners at Services E.

Division Three leaders Pyramid B were 5-1 winners over Gosberton C, the highlight of which was Lester Gaunt’s (O49) 118-57 win over James Elliott (O7) in the opening frame.

Third placed Pyramid E lost 5-1 to Consti D.

Wins on the black by Jim Thompson (R7) and Pat Taylor (77) ensured Donington D overcame Consti A 4-2 in a tight encounter.

Consti J were 5-1 winners over Gosberton D, Les Andrew (R7) sealing it with a 58-57 win over Deacon Hempsall (R7).
