Moulton Harrox shine in the storm as Patterson eyes up an assault on second place

Moulton Harrox 3 Oundle Town 0

Bobby Patterson heaped praise on his Moulton Harrox side after they braved dreadful conditions to defeat Oundle Town 3-0 on Saturday.

A double from Alfie Woodward and an Ian Bradbury strike fired Moulton to a hard-fought three points in the ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division.

However, it was the windy conditions that proved the most difficult hurdle for Harrox to clear – best highlighted by a first-half Joe Townsend lob that looked set to find the net, only for the wind to blow the ball back to the keeper.

The win leaves Moulton fourth in the standings, 11 points off top spot but just six shy of second place with a game in hand.

Co-boss Patterson said: “It was just a little bit cold and windy on Saturday! We’ve got such an open ground, so it was very difficult if the wind was against you – and Oundle played with it in the first half.

“To be honest, I thought we did OK and perhaps should have been ahead at half time. We defended well and had to get the ball down, which suited us.

“In the second half Ian scored straight away, then Alfie got two to seal it. It was very well deserved in the end, we were the better side on the day.

“If you look at the table, I think it’s Uppingham’s to lose now and they could end up running away with it.

“After that, I think second place is very much up for grabs and we’re certainly one of the teams who could get it.

“We’re in a good position and there’s plenty more games to be played.”

Next up for Harrox are Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the Lincs Junior Cup at home on Saturday.

Moulton: Murphy, Coddington, Clay, McGuire, Chappell, Kisla, Townsend, Woodward, Law, Earth, Bradbury. Subs used: Ford, Machin, Smith.
