Frost admits that experienced Gresley were ‘too much, too soon’ for Holbeach United

Gary Frost admitted that Saturday’s clash with title-chasing Gresley Rovers came “too soon” for his new-look Holbeach United side.

The Tigers remain winless and bottom of the Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North table after a heavy 4-0 home beating against the mighty Moatmen.

Steve Hart’s double put the visitors 2-0 up at the break, before Hart’s third and a Dan Munday penalty completed the scoring at Carter’s Park.

For Frost, who enjoyed a 5-0 victory in his first game as boss against Blackstones last week, the scoreline offered few surprises.

“The game was too big for us at this stage,” admitted the former Boston Town chief. “Gresley are very good at what they do and have a very particular way of playing.

“We’re trying to create our own style, but it’s very early days – and to meet a side who know exactly what they’re doing was always going to be very tough.

“They are a very experienced and physical side full of players with the right attitude.

“We certainly won’t be judged on a game like this.

“I thought we placed some nice stuff at times, but perhaps went long a few too many times.

“The next few games are much more winnable and we need to focus on them.”

One chief positive for Frost was that he was able to hand a start to new signing Jake Clitheroe, a player the Tigers have been trying to sign for some time.

There were also home debuts for Curtis Revell, Jake Frestle and James Tricks.

Tigers: Frestle, Burdass, Nicholson, Jackson, Rose, Wright, Williams, Eyett, Clitheroe, Tricks, Revell. Subs used: Barnes, Carter, Chester.

Attendance: 108.
