GALLERY – Community fair is a resounding hit

Village residents in South Holland came together at the weekend for a community event.

With attractions galore for younger visitors, there was something for everyone to enjoy at the Gosberton Village Fair.

The fair is usually held in June but was postponed this year until after the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

There was no event last year because of the pandemic and everyone was ready to get together.

“It was a free event and there were three great things; firstly the weather was good, people wanted to be at the event and it was a good turn-out,” said Jane Parker, secretary of the Gosberton Community Action Team.

“We want to thank the parish council for letting us use the field and providing the toilets along with the sponsor of our singer Karen Clarke. We sold Pimms and ice cream to help cover our costs,” she added.

It is the fourth annual fair organised by the group, which is chaired by the Rev Ian Walters.

Alongside the community fair, the committee also started a Good Neighbour Scheme.

The next summer fair will be a ‘riot of red, white and blue’ as it will be a celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.

The 70th anniversary of her accession will be marked with a four-day weekend starting on Thursday, June 2 with an extra Bank Holiday. The traditional May Bank Holiday will move to Friday, June 3 to allow for the planned celebrations around the country.
