It’s been over 12 months since I revisited my cycling.
Now retired I have taken it up on a more serious basis covering many miles of our Fenland countryside.
Having regained contact with a lifetime friend, local cyclist Mike Saunders, originally from Pinchbeck, who told me about Helen Forman, who sadly lost her brother Tom, aged 52, to cancer in February.
Helen had set herself a challenge to cycle 280km over three days from Thorpe Hall, Peterborough, where Tom was born, to St Michael’s Hospice, Harrogate, where he was cared for at the end of his life, taking in memorable family locations along the way.
Supported by her two friends, Elaine and Katherine, she wanted to raise money for the hospice and celebrate Tom’s life.
Mike, being a friend of the Forman family for many years, wanted to surprise Helen en route, so this is where Mike and I met the girls at Trinity Bridge Crowland early on Friday morning to cycle with them en route as far as Pinchbeck where Helen was meeting up with other friends and family.
It was a pleasure to meet Helen and her friends and talk en route along the Deeping High Bank, along the River Welland towards Spalding. Albeit only ten miles, our cycle ride with the girls gave them some moral boosting support, which was much appreciated.
Helen finished the event on Sunday safe and sound and has raised over £2,500 so far for such a worthy cause.
