We could not help but sympathise and agree with the comments of many of your correspondents.
The letters relating to shopping facilities for example, here in Wymondham they are similar, we too have vast numbers of new houses and yet have very restricted retail facilities, we have two supermarkets, only because one of them was built outside the curtilage of the town council’s influence.
The comments relating to Spalding ring a bell too, I last visited Spalding in 2015 and was surprised how run down the town was, I think the term I used to my wife was ‘what a sad town’.
The comments by Mr Vick of Gedney ring true too, once again we are expected to accommodate those who have run away from their own homes, they will doubtless use our NHS and other public services despite never contributing to them.
They also bring with them their extremist religion. What will these peopledo? There are very limited opportunities for Afghan translators in the UK.
Finally, may I pass on the hope that the last trip of Ernie Covill was as successful as Harold Payne hoped. It is the preservation of the memories of these people which is so much more important than the views of the ‘woke’ historians and commentators from our so called ‘universities’.
