Long Sutton Athletic flying high after impressive win over rivals Netherton

Long Sutton Athletic pulled off an eye-catching victory on the opening day of the new ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division season on Saturday.

The Magpies saw off perennial title contenders Netherton United 2-1 at London Road, with Ryan Alexander and Cameron Lee netting the goals.

Dan Fountain netted in reply for Netherton, but they were beaten in South Holland.

Perhaps just as surprising as that result was Moulton Harrox’s shock 3-2 reverse at Stilton United in the top flight.

In what was their first competitive game under the co-management of Bobby Patterson and Tim Cole, Strikes from

Kyial West (2) and Jordan Fiddes handed Harrox a very rare defeat.

Moulton stalwarts Ian Bradbury and Ash Coddington were on target, but the boys from Broad Lane will be hoping to bounce back next week.

Also beaten were Crowland Town, who went down 4-1 against Stamford Belvedere at the Snowden Field.

Strikes from Scott Lock, Louie Roberts, Kyle Scott and Josh Dowell left the hosts reeling on day one.

Likewise, Holbeach United Reserves were handed a 2-0 reverse at Wittering Premiair in the top tier.

A double from William Harris sank the Tigers’ second string.

There was better news for South Holland sides in Division One, as Moulton Harrox Reserves absolutely annihilated Peterborough Northern Star Reserves 12-0.

Declan Earth led the charge with five goals on the day, while Martin Sandall (2), John Ball, Jamie Casey, Daniel Lambe

Hyner, Alfie Woodward and Alfie Wilson also got in on the act for Pete Nottingham’s on-song side.

However, Pinchbeck United Reserves slipped up 2-0 at home to Warboys Town as Matt Brown and Jake Thornton struck at Knight Street.

The other game scheduled in Division One, Crowland Town Reserves’ trip to Thorpe Wood Rangers, was postponed.

On Tuesday night in Division One, goals from Laurence Price and Alfie Woodward helped Moulton Reserves beat Pinchbeck Reserves 3-1 at Broad Lane, despite a Harrison Holland goal.

Meanwhile, Crowland Reserves were thumped 12-0 at home by Deeping Reserves.
