Driving ban for man who crashed car he was test driving while drunk

A Spalding man who was testing a car he was being offered to buy, crashed into a wall, a court has heard.

Kamil Walasiewicz, 34, of Juniper Crescent, admitted driving with excess alcohol, when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

Jim Clare, prosecuting, said that on November 24, Walasiewicz crashed the Skoda car into a wall and after providing a positive breath test to police, he was arrested.

He said he gave a reading of 92 micrograms of alcohol in his breath, the legal limit being 35.

In interview he told police he and two others had drunk two bottles of vodka and that he had only intended to drive to the end of the road and back.

Michael Alexander, mitigating, said Walasiewicz had been drinking at home and had had no intention of going out, but a friend had turned up and had offered him the Skoda and suggested he might want to buy it.

He said Walasiewicz drove the car to the end of the road and back but crashed into a wall, adding that he would have to pay for the cost of the damage himself as it wasn’t covered by the insurance.

Walasiewicz was banned from driving for 23 months but was offered the drink drivers’ rehabilitation course which will reduce the period of the ban by 23 weeks.

He was also fined £583 and ordered to pay £143 in court costs and charges.
