The Surfleet Good Neighbour Scheme is now offering a food larder and take away service.
The Bishop Grosseteste University and the Lincolnshire Food Partnership have provided funding for the venture which started last week.
Both services are based at the Tonic 44 Cafe, Station Road, and are aimed at residents in and around Surfleet plus who have a genuine need for additional help.
The takeaway service is offered to the children of key workers and those who normally receive free school meals.
They are available to collect and re-heat and need to be ordered 24 hours in advance. There is also a delivery service for vulnerable residents who are unable to leave their homes.
The Food Larder will run alongside the takeaway provision and is a drop-in service so there’s no need to book.
The larder includes games, jigsaws and craft supplies. There is also help with delivery if it’s needed.
The larder is also accepting donations of food, games, jigsaws and craft supplies. All donations will be subject to a 48-hour quarantine period before they are added to the larder.
Volunteers from the Good Neighbour Group have been out and about this week putting leaflets through local letterboxes to let people know what is available and when.
One of those behind the scheme is Vicki Dodge who had previously been providing Hampers of Kindness in the area.
“It’s just about trying to help people in need,” said the mum of three. “It’s nice to be able to do something to help and it also helps bring people closer together at a time when they have to be apart.
“I’ve certainly made a few good friends and it’s nice to connect and help with people who are feeling alone.
“We’ve had quite a few people for the hot meals we’ve been doing and we’ve already sent some parcels out.
“We’ve also had a lot of support from volunteers to ensure there’s someone on hand when needed.”
Companies and individuals wishing to donate can call 07832 924617. The number can also be used to contact the Good Neighbour Scheme to order a meal.
The Food Larder is open on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
