A host of traffic measures to make Holbeach safer have been proposed by the parish council.
And the parish councillor who is leading the way, Coun Michelle Manley, is also exploring the prospect of setting up a group of volunteers to monitor speed in the town.
She has been researching traffic hot spots for the last few months and the results provided the basis for the proposals which have gone to the county council.
Measures for Spalding Road include imposing a weight restriction of 7.5 tonnes between Market Hill and the roundabout as well as lowering the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph along part of the road and to 20mph in front of Stukeley Park.
Other proposed speed restrictions are making the stretch of Penny Hill Road between the A17 and the Bull’s Neck pub to be maximum 40mph, reducing the speed limit on Albert Street to 20mph and on Damgate Road down to 30mph.
Several new speed signs are also being requested including outside Stukeley Park and at Saracen’s Head while flashing signs are being requested for Park Road, Park Lane, Langwith Drive and Harwood Avenue.
“I’m hoping these measures will make the town a safer place,” said Coun Manley who also recently worked alongside Carol Anderson to get two new warning signs for ducks up in the village. “Some of the back roads are 60mph and people use them as a rat run or are just constantly speeding.”
