A Spalding man who was found lying face down in a potato field in an attempt to avoid arrest after driving at over 90mph, has been banned from driving for three years.
Ignas Bagdonas, 30, of Banks Avenue, admitted failing to stop for the police, driving without insurance or a driving licence and driving in excess of a 60mph speed limit, when he appeared before magistrates in Boston.
The court was told that Bagdonas was clocked by police driving at 93mph in a 60mph zone in his Vauxhall Vectra at 2.38am on May 29 on the A17 at Swineshead.
Prosecutor Sukhi Singh said police followed him towards Sutterton and, although they ‘blue lighted’ him, he did not stop and he then overtook a heavy goods vehicle and turned sharply left towards the A16.
He said Bagdonas then turned onto a dirt track at 40mph before coming to a stop and abandoning the car.
Mr Singh said he then ran into a potato field and was found by police lying down between the rows of potatoes.
In court, Bagdonas, who was not represented, apologised.
The magistrates told him he had put the officers and others at risk and fined him £200 with an additional £119 in court charges and costs.
He was banned from driving for three years.
