Work on new bridge starts on Monday

Preliminary work on a potential new footbridge at Blue Gowt Bridge between Spalding and Pinchbeck is to commence on Monday.

The work is being carried out as part of the first section of the Spalding Western Relief Road and will require the closing of Blue Gowt Lane from July 20.

The ground investigation works are expected to take a maximum of ten working days, subject to suitable weather.

Investigations taking place during from next will take place away from the road and will not have any effect on the carriageway, Lincolnshire County Council day.

However, starting on Monday July, 20 a week-long 24/7 road closure will be in place on Blue Gowt Lane, between its junctions with Market Way and Mill Green Road (subject to suitable weather).

The signed diversion route for the closure will be via Market Way / Pennytoft Lane / CherryHolt Lane / Mill Green Road, and vice versa.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “These investigations, which start away from the road next week, are an essential part of our preliminary works for the new footbridge we’ll be building as part of the relief road project.

“Although Blue Gowt Lane will be fully shut to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians when we start investigations on and around the road itself, access will remain in place for residents and emergency services. Those living south and west of the works encouraged to approach from Mill Green Road and those to the north from Market Way.

“The team will do everything they can to keep disruption to a minimum, including working to get the works completed as quickly as possible.

“Once the ground investigation is complete, Blue Gowt Lane will re-open.”
