Dancers are Diamondz in the lockdown

A dance school’s efforts to continue during the lockdown has led to them composing a video of thanks for NHS staff.

Diamondz School of Dance which is usually based in Bourne Road, Spalding, has around 110 students after being set up by Abbi Thompson 13 years ago.

She started it when aged 16 and it’s grown since then including moving into its current home in 2017.

Despite the lockdown, the group has continued to hold online sessions, even linking up with other dance groups and classes.

And Abbi decided to create a contemporary dance piece as a thank you to NHS, key workers and a tribute to those who have lost their lives to COVID-19.

Abbi said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback.

“We’ve had numerous messages on how dance is benefiting the students’ mental health through lockdown and there’s nothing more I could wish for.

“It’s been a real team effort, even in lockdown which I’m so grateful for.

“I’m not going to say it has been easy teaching in the lockdown as it’s been really tough.

“We are not tech wizards and have had to learn a lot.

“Teaching online is not the same as face to face, it’s taken a lot of adapting and risk assessment for us to find what works best, to ensure we still support and promote good physical and mental health as we did in the studio.”
