Appeal after man in his 70s is spat on

A man in his 70s was spat at by someone who bumped into him while in Spalding town centre recently.

Lincolnshire Police has today (Thursday, May 7) released the image of a man they’d like to speak to about the incident which took place outside in Hall Place at around midday on Tuesday, April 14.

Do you know this man?

The victim had told the suspect to be careful given the current requirements for social distancing.

The suspect responded by spitting at the elderly man, Lincolnshire Police has said.

A spokesman said: “We are appealing for assistance to identify the man in the image in connection with an assault on an elderly man.

“The victim, a man in his 70s, was withdrawing money from the Natwest cash machine in Hall Place, Spalding, at around midday on April 14 when a man who was walking past him on the pavement made contact with the victim’s arm.

“The victim asked the suspect to be careful, as he was concerned about the two metre spacing rule in view of the current Coronavirus situation.

“The suspect responded and without warning spat at the victim, saliva making contact on the back of victims head.

“The suspect then walked away refusing to engage with the victim.

“If you know who the man is in the image or can assist with our investigation please contact us.”
