Veterans helped with packs

A number of war veterans have been getting donations thanks to local volunteers, businesses and groups.

While the likes of next month’s VE Day celebrations won’t be taking place as normal, organiser Jan Whitbourn has been using her contacts book to ensure those veterans are being provided for via the Spalding COVID Kindness team.

And Morrisons have helped get on board to donate goods.

Just before Easter that included a number of chocolate eggs.

Jan said: “Gail Ridley does a wonderful job as a community champion and when she found out I was delivering fruit and vegetables to the veterans she asked if I would help put care packages together for them from Morrisons, with an Easter Egg.

“It was a long day, sorting through the boxes, putting the packages together and then delivering, but the reward was great.

“There are so many nice veterans, elated to receive their surprise package with an Easter egg, which was a lovely reward in itself. The veterans we spoke to wanted to thank Gail and Morrisons for thinking about them and providing such a wonderful package.
