The number of businesses in South Holland with at least acceptable food hygiene ratings remains at an all-time high.
Latest figures show that firms with either satisfactory, good or very good ratings is now 98.2 per cent. The breakdown is 375 with the top rating of 5 (very good), 146 are good and 76 are satisfactory.
However, 11 premises are not an acceptable standard, seven of which are rated as “major improvement necessary”.
The seven with a rating of 1 (as per government website www.food.gov.uk on October 24) are:
- Chilli Master, 11 Winsover Road, Spalding
- Jet Garage, 208 High Road, Whaplode
- Lithuanian Grocery Ltd, 82 Holbeach Road, Spalding
- Long Sutton Baptist Church Lunches, West Street, Long Sutton
- Mitzys Bakery, 82 Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge
- New Eastern Delight, 19 High Street, Holbeach
- Pasaka, 30 Westlode Street, Spalding
The four businesses rated 2 (“improvement necessary”) are:
- Rafael’s Coffee Shop, 28 Westlode Street, Spalding
- Shanghai Garden, Market Place, Spalding
- Tandoori Master Fry, 58A Bourne Road, Spalding
- The Tea Room, 31 High Street, Holbeach
Ratings are determined by food safety officers and show how well a business is doing overall, but also take account of the level of risk to people’s health.
Coun Anthony Casson, South Holland District Council’s portfolio holder for food, health and safety, recently accompanied officers from the authority on inspection visits to three eateries. Two businesses which had ratings of 3 retained their scores and a firm which previously had a 3 was upgraded to a 4.
Coun Casson said: “I am extremely pleased with ratings in the district currently which are testament to the dedicated work of our team, but we will certainly not be getting complacent.
“The protection of the public is our highest priority and we continue to work actively with businesses to assist them with standards.
“I strongly recommend that members of the public use Food Hygiene Ratings with confidence and enjoy meals out in establishments who take food safety seriously.”
To check the Food Hygiene Rating of a restaurant or takeaway, look for the green and black sticker, usually displayed in a window. If you can’t see one, just ask.
South Holland District Council also regularly promotes the latest 5 rated businesses on its Facebook page.
