Spalding United Reformed Church is kicking off the celebrations to mark its 200th anniversary this weekend.
The origins of the Pinchbeck Road church date back to 1819 when members began meeting together in a Red Lion Street hall for what became the Independent Chapel.
Events are being held throughout the year to mark the double centenary.
The first of these is a special service being held on Sunday, January 13 at 10.30am.
It’s followed swiftly by a Burn’s Night Supper on Friday, January 25 at the Church Hall.
Church secretary Anne Mews said: “The mass will officially launch our year of celebration and all past members and friends are welcome to join us.
“If you were involved in any of our organisations or activities at any time in the past then please do come along.
“You are also welcome to stay for a buffet lunch following the service. We do need to know names for this in order to cater adequately.
“For the Burn’s Night Supper we are honoured to have a professional Toast master – Ian Hall, participating in the evening.”
Tickets for the four course meal and entertainment are £12.50.
Tickets are available by contacting Anne on 01406 373341 aigret@btinternet or Maralyn Robinson 01775 766403 or [email protected]
The church is also on the lookout from anyone who may have any memorabilia or objects relating to its past over the past 200 years.
It became known as the Congregational Church until 1972 when it merged with the Presbyterian Church of England and Wales to form the United Reformed Church as it’s known today.
Anne said: “We are still looking for memorabilia, photos, stories, etc from all those folks out there who have had some connections with what was fondly known as the ‘Congs’ in years gone by so please do get in touch if you have anything.”
