Renovation works at a Spalding church, which were made possible by a large bequest, are taking a little longer than anticipated.
The £600,000 project started at St John the Baptist Church in Hawthorn Bank back in April and was expected to be completed by October.
However, unforeseen circumstances mean the work is still going on and Christmas services will have to be held elsewhere.
Rev Peter Garland said: “Three years ago church member Peter Langford bequeathed a large sum of money to the church which has enabled us to carry out these works.
“We are using the money for new seats, a new floor and to have a room added on at the back of the church.
“The floor has taken longer than we expected so we are now hoping to move back into the church early in the New Year.”
While the church has been out of action services have been held at St John’s Primary School, which is next door, and in the church lounge.
Mr Garland added: “We really wanted to be back in the church for Christmas as it’s such a special time of year and it always looks so lovely in there but it’ll be worth it in the end when all the work’s done.
“We are incredibly grateful to Mr Langford for his extremely generous bequest.
“He lived in Spalding and came to church every week on his pushbike.”
The cost of the work has been covered by Mr Langford’s bequest, along with other various donations.
