A group of elite cyclists from local packaging company Coveris spent the weekend completing a gruelling 460-mile cycle challenge in memory of former colleague, Steve Callaway – and helped to raise £15,000.

Steve lost his battle with cancer in November and Coveris, formerly Paragon Print and Packaging, set up the Steve Callaway Challenge to raise funds for his chosen charity, CLIC Sargent.

Starting at Hereford on Friday and ending in Cramlington in the North East on Monday, the route across the majority of the business’s 17 UK sites involved up to 15 cyclists per day participating in the full challenge or one of the 100-mile plus legs.

As part of the local activities, the cycle ride was supported by a massive fun day event held at Wyberton Playing Field on Saturday.
With over 600 friends and colleagues of Steve, who was factory manager at a number of Coveris sites over the years, including Pinchbeck’s Enterprise Way, the event consisted of live music, games and kids’ entertainment, all of which added to the fundraising target.

Having received tremendous support from over 100 businesses including Bakkavor, Boston United, Produce World, Tulip and Indevco, Coveris organisers said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who has contributed to this special event. Your generosity and support has been tremendously overwhelming and has gone a very long way to supporting this amazing cause.”
