School is ‘good’ all round

A warm and inclusive South Holland school has been praised by Ofsted.

Cowbit St Mary’s Primary has been awarded good across the board following an inspection last month.
“The school’s ethos of care and respect helps pupils thrive, both academically and personally,” says the report.
“Pupils enjoy coming to school and show positive attitudes to learning. They respond well to the high expectations set by staff and show enthusiasm for their lessons,” the report adds.
The school is a voluntary-aided Church of England school and has 86 pupils on the role.
“We are delighted and extremely proud of this positive outcome which is a testament to the care and commitment of our staff,” said headteacher Elizabeth Leonard in a school newsletter.
“We pride ourselves in putting the children at the centre of everything we do.”
The inspection report says the school’s curriculum was designed to ensure pupils build knowledge and skill.
“In some subjects the curriculum is deliberately focused upon the school’s local context. This is so pupils can make connections in their learning. For example, pupils study the history of the Spalding Flower Parade.”
Reading is described as a ‘key strength’ of the school and maths has a strong emphasis on fluency, reasoning and problem-solving.
The school offers a ‘broad range of enrichment activities’ and staff feel valued by leaders.
