Dethroned county kings Moulton Harrox made the perfect start to their Lincs Junior Cup campaign with a crushing 7-0 victory over Kirton Town on Saturday.
Champions in 2013, ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division side Harrox are aiming to lift the coveted county crown again this year.
Their first round tie couldn’t have gone much better, with Macauley Grimwood (2), Ashley Coddington, Robbie Cundy, Phillip Groves, Billy King and David Wilson all on target at Broad Lane.
Pinchbeck United, who reached the final the year before Harrox, are also safely through as they bid for another shot at the trophy.
Tom Gosling and Mark Thompson were both on the scoresheet as Ian Dunn’s charges dispatched Old Leake 2-0 at Knight Street.
It wasn’t such a great day for Crowland Town, though, as they crashed out 7-1 at Hykeham Town. Virginijus Simkus grabbed Crowland’s consolation.
The big winners of the round were Spalding Town, who hammered hosts North Cotes 9-0 – thanks largely to Martin Sandall’s five-goal haul. Tom Elderkin (2), Scott Burrell and Andrew Williams.
Back in the Peterborough League, Holbeach United Reserves remain rock bottom of the Premier Division after a 7-0 drubbing at high-flying Netherton United.
Ben Cullen hit four to put Omar Joof’s promoted Tigers to the sword.
It was a similar story for Long Sutton Athletic in Division One, as they were handed a 5-0 reverse at table-toppers Coates Athletic Reserves.
Sutton Bridge United fared better in their thrilling 3-3 draw with Peterborough ICA Sports Reserves. Despite having sub Shaun Bunn sent off, goals from Kurt Scott, Matt Eaton and Ben English earned hosts Bridge a point at Memorial Park.
In the same division, Moulton Harrox Reserves went down 3-2 at Baston.
Elsewhere, Spalding United Reserves slipped to their first defeat of the season in Division Two.
Leaders at the start of the day, the Tulips were beaten 2-1 at ICA Sports A – who leapfrog them at the top of the tree as a result.
Edgaras Buzas got the sole Spalding goal.
Pinchbeck United Reserves also slipped to a 3-1 loss at Leverington Sports Reserves.
Matthew Earth grabbed their consolation, but it’s now four defeats in six games for Pinchbeck’s second string.
In Division Three, Tydd St Mary suffered their maiden beating of the campaign too. They were soundly beaten 4-1 by Baston Reserves a Memorial Park, with only a late James Dack strike offering the Saints any kind of cheer.
Down a level in Division Four, Long Sutton Reserves had to settle for a 2-2 draw against ten-man Oundle Town Reserves, while Sutton Bridge United Reserves were humbled 5-0 at Glinton and Northborough Reserves.
In Division Five, Tom Chenery and Ben Gibbons struck to earn Holbeach United A a 2-2 home draw with Sawtry A, while Luke Baines’ hat-trick fired Whaplode Drove to a 4-3 win over Parkside A.
Lee Horwood got the other Drove goal.
Tydd St Mary Reserves drew 2-2 at Parkway Eagles Reserves thanks to goals from Joe Johnson and Stuart Stephens.
