Youngsters were given a taste of life on the home front in the 1940s during a themed day of events in Spalding.

Ayscoughfee Adventurers – the children’s educational and play sessions based at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum – learned about food rationing during World War Two and evacuees, and had the chance to make their own gas mask.

Last Sunday veterans gathered in Ayscoughfee Gardens for the annual VJ Day parade and service, commemorating August 15, 1945 – the day that Japan surrendered to the Allies, effectively ending the war.
