Six-wicket Suwarneraj on song

Spalding and Long Sutton suffered more frustration in the Lincolnshire Board Premier League.

After both losing their opening fixture, hopes of bouncing back were dashed with their matches against Bracebridge Heath and Grimsby Town, respectively, cancelled due to Saturday’s wet weather.
No such washout for Moulton Harrox though, who made it two wins out of two to go top of the fledgling South Lincs Border League Championship table, thanks to a 117-run thrashing of Billingborough.
The hosts scored solidly throughout their innings, despite no player reaching the half-century mark.
Captain Blake Wolstenholme went for 41 after sharing an opening stand of 55 with Chris Beale (21).
Robbie Townsend (48) and Matthew Rose (43) shared a fourth-wicket stand of 41 before both falling caught and bowled to Jacob Light.
Flynn McMillan then steadied things with an unbeaten 23 to guide his team to 219/5 from their 45 overs.
Rose (4-12 from nine overs) and Lee Eyett (3-9 from 4.2) kept the visitors well shackled, with three of the other four bowlers also claiming a wicket as Billingborough were bowled out for 102 in the 39th over.
Moulton made it an inter-club double in Division Two with the club’s second XI seeing off their Billingborough counterparts by five wickets.
Anish Suwarneraj ripped through the home top order in spectacular style as his 6-28 from five overs saw his victims muster just eight runs between them.
It was then the turn of Zak Maddison to get his reward as he wrapped up the tail with 4-17 from 4.1 overs as the home team were sent back to the pavilion with just 48 runs to their name.
Harry Shersby weighed in with three maidens from his three overs, while Cameron Fox conceded only two runs in his two overs.
However, the visitors did not have things all their way as Harry Lamb hit back with 5-16 to leave Moulton rocking.
Thankfully, Ruari Drumm held his nerve and hit two 4s in an unbeaten 21 to see his team home at 49/5 in the 22nd over.
In Division One, Spalding Seconds’ run chase ended in failure with a seven-run defeat at home to Ancaster.
The visitors had opener Anthony Richardson to thank for their winning score, after scoring a near run-a-ball 97 in an opening partnership of 128 with Andy Lewis (26).
Spalding rotated their bowlers in an attempt to stay in the game but only two of the nine used managed to take a wicket. Josh Lawrence (2-21) and John Healy (2-34) were the successful bowlers.
Nevertheless, they did manage to restrict Ancaster to 194/4 from their 45 overs and were confident of reaching their near-4.5 runs an over target.
That did look a tall order when they slumped to 64/4, despite the efforts of opener Michael Kearns (31).
However, things took a turn for the better with the arrival of Sam Webster (25) at the crease as he shared a 82-run stand with William Gardner, who hit seven 4s in a 52-ball 54 before departing at 146/5.
It was then the turn of Ethan Lawrence to force the pace with three 4s in a 24-ball 30.
Unfortunately Spalding could not keep up with the run rate after that and ran out of overs on 187/7.
Both the area’s teams in Sunday action were left sidelined with the Rutland League Division One encounter between Long Sutton and Barnack, plus Moulton Harrox’s Division Four East clash with Hampton cancelled.
