Hi Rodney, thank you for your insightful and well written letter, as usual. I am at a loss to understand why the local voting public find the Conservatives appealing. They finally issued their manifesto, after pouring scorn on the Labour Party's well thought out, pragmatic and fully costed manifesto; yet the Conservatives have not fully costed their manifesto. Worse yet, it targets both the pensioners and the under 25s in such an adverse manner. As John McDonnell, suggested today, it appears the Tories are up to their old tricks of pitting groups against each other in dog-eatdog fashion.
This election is crucial and it's disappointing that local voters have decided either to abstain or spoil their vote or vote Tory because "John Hayes is a nice man" and "Corbyn/ Labour is a joke". Basically, these people are disrespecting those fought hard to give us the vote and are telling us that they have no interest in the welfare of others, the NHS, our education nor improving the standard of living for the many rather than just the few.
We were subject to some appalling abuse when canvassing the other day, swearing or ridiculing us simply for trying to pass on the message of hope that only the Labour Party can bring to our nation. The anger and hate is palpable and yet these adults are directing their anger erroneously towards the Labour Party, Mr Corbyn and anyone associated with them.
I just pray that commonsense prevails and we paint the nation red!
