Holbeach man launches new radio station

A Holbeach man has helped set up a new radio station based in the town.

Mike Huston boasts 25 years in radio including with Capital, Bauer and Tindle and has now set up Brilliant Radio.
He has big plans for the new station for the area.
“I’ve been in radio for years and seen lots of changes and worked with brilliant people,” Mike said.
“I think there’s now a gap for a station playing good music for local people.”
Brilliant Radio is only in its early stages and Mike says he’s in talks with some ‘big names’ for it.
He does though want to hear from young talent in the area who are looking to do more with radio, be it remotely or via his Holbeach home studio.
“We’ve a lot of experience behind us at Brilliant Radio but it will be nice to find some new talent,” Mike continued.
“We’d love to hear from those who we could perhaps mentor and coach.”
The station will be aimed at the South Holland, Boston and Skegness areas.
Mike is proud of the fact those behind it have spent countless hours selecting tracks to play.
“Me and my team really get music.
“We’ve gone through every chart since January 1, 1970, hand selecting tunes.
“Yes, there will be the obvious ones but we don’t want to be repetitive and like some stations where you’ll hear the same song five times a day.
“There’s some real surprises in there that people might have forgotten about.”
Among the shows already on air are the Brilliant Breakfast 7am to 9am, Monday to Friday, a UK Hot 40 chart with Chris Brooks from 4pm to 7pm on Sunday and Woolfy’s Retro Chart, 4pm to 7pm on Saturdays.
There’s also specialist shows Kick Up The 80s (Saturdays 10am), Pump Up The 90s (Sundays 3pm), The Soft Rock Show (Thursdays 6pm) and Robin Schulz (Saturdays 11pm).
“We’ll also be looking to shout about more local items and look to help support local businesses,” continued Mike.
“One of the things we’re going to look to do is celebrate local charities and give them free air time to promote their work.”
To listen to Brilliant Radio you can ask your Alexa or home service device to ‘play Brilliant Radio’, listen via an internet app or go online at www.brilliantradio.co.uk
Those behind it are also currently considering going on to DAB radio airwaves eventually.
